United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received April 18, 6.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 17.

It is understood that Rear Admiral Byrd and Mr Lincoln Ellsworth have been asked to consult the Government concerning plans for an official expedition to the South Polar regions, in order to fasten down the American claims to the potential resources in the region, for which an international race is developing.

A prominent member of the Government explained that “sooner or later there must be a conference to settle the question of international claims in the region. Britain, Germany, France, Norway and virtually every other nation are claiming something. The State Department has never recognised the claims, and we want to fasten down our jurisdiction and obtain all possible data on the matter.” ADMIRAL BYRD INTERVIEWED EXPEDITION IN SUMMER OF 1940 United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received April 18, 10.55 p.m.) MONTREAL, April 18. Admiral Byrd in an interview said that the summer of 1940 would be the most practical season for the Government expedition.
