PROPOSAL REJECTED IN SOUTH AFRICA

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright CAPE TOWN, April 14. The Union Assembly rejected by 81 votes to 17, Mr Louw’s anti-Jewish Bill.

A message from Capetown on February 24 state that Mr Eric Louw, a farmer Minister, and member of the Opposition, in supporttag his Aliens Bill in the South African Assembly, the object of which is to prevent further Jewish immigration, declared that if South Africa did not tackle the problem occurrences in certain European countries would be repeated. South Africa’s proportion of Jews was the world’s fourth highest—namely, five per cent., which the Jewish leaders admitted was the danger-line.
