MOSGIEL TRAGEDY
LORRY DRIVER ARRESTED By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, April 17 As a sequel to the tragedy at Mosgiel, where a young couple were found dead beside a motor-cycle, the police arrested William Alexander Tait, aged 30, a lorry driver, who works at Outram, but who comes from Oamaru. Tait was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with negligent driving causing death, being remanded to April 26, on bail of £4OO. The inquest on the victims was opened and adjourned. The poignancy of the tragedy is heightened by the fact that the victims, Neil Harris and Vera Thomson, were engaged and had been spending the evening at Miss Thomson’s parents, where her father was celebrating his birthday. He saw them off at 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. Nearby residents heard a smash, but the impact had thrown the bodies and cycle off the road so nothing was visible.
