SINISTER WARNING TO POLAND

ALLEGED ACTS OF HOSTILITY

Ominous Reference to

“ Consequences ”

Reported Movement of Troops

“Acts May Be Hurtful to Poland Herself”

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright BERLIN, March 28 The Official Organ of the German Foreign Office "Diplomatisch-Politische Korrespondenz” states that acts against Germany might, despite the Reich's desire to live at peace with Poland, result in consequences as deplorable for the future harmonious development of this area of Europe as they would be harmful to Poland itself. Germany has taken little notice of recent incidents, but it should not be assumed from this that the incidents have been overlooked. Tire reason foi German moderation has been the desire and hope that such straying from the correct path was only a temporary wave of Chauvinism which would retreat before decency. Unfortunately these expectations have not been fulfilled. If certain Polish cities believe it is in order to revile and persecute Germans this can be interpreted only as a profession of faith in the spirit of Versailles.

Ominous References Poland is warned that opposition to German wishes may be dangerous. The Official Organ refers ominously to the “particular geographical position of the State” and deplores the antiGerman propaganda.” regardless of the strain placed on relations between Germany and Poland by the Versailles

Treaty. The Fuhrer has done his best to persuade the German people that an independent and strong Poland should be regarded as essential to the stability of Central Europe, and that it is therefore desirable to live in friendly relations. This is the basis of the treaty. If Poland now comes to the conclusion that the same consideration for the vital rights and honour of the German people is no longer required, this would be regrettable for the future harmonious developments in Europe, and detrimental to Poland.

DIPLOMATIC PRESSURE IN WARSAW HAMPERING POLAND’S CHOICE United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 29, 5.5 pun.) LONDON, March 29, The Warsaw correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” says: The German Ambassador visited Colonel Beck (Polish Foreign Minister). It is understood he received Colonel Beck’s assurance that Poland had no intention of departing from the principles of the ten year non-aggression pact which was signed in 1934. This is interpreted in some quarters as meaning that Poland will not join the antiGerman coalition.

GERMAN ATTENTION TO POLAND REPORTS OF HOSTILE DEMONSTRATIONS United Press Association-Hr Siectrto Tplperanh- Copyright (Received March 30, 1.15 a.m.) BERLIN, March 29. A German News Agency continues to issue reports of anti-German demonstrations in the Polish frontier regions. The windows of all German houses in Margonin and Bromberg are reported to have been broken. Two clerks going home were attacked and seriously injured. These are allegedly typical of the disturbances elsewhere.
