FURTHER IMPORTATION
SOUTHDOWN RAM ARRIVES BOUND FOR NORTH OTAGO A representative of one of the most famous sheep breeding establishments in England “Aldenham 512 or 1937” arrived in Wellington last week by the “Awatea” after being quarantined in Sydney for 3 months. Imported by Mr H. J. Andrew of Maheno, North Otago, to head his well known stud “Aldenham 512” was purchased in England and shipped to New Zealand through the Stud Stock Department of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, acting as agents. Typically Southdown in appearance with soft handling wool “Aldenham 512” is by a Luton Hoo ram No. 588 who was sired by Goodwood No. 288 l<"2 no hi rsy £S’S thus combines the blood of some of the most outstanding studs in Great Britain. Southdown breeders throughout the Dominion will be interested to learn that recent advices received by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency from London states that the “Aldenham” Stud of Mr J. Pierpont Morgan is to be disposed of on July 20 by public auction, owing to the owner having relinquished his farming interests. Thus will end one of the world’s most renowned sheep studs which during the past 17 years has won over 125 championships besides exporting high class Southdown sheep to all parts of the world. Breeders who have during the past few months contemplated importing stock from overseas will not doubt take the opportunity, now that the restrictions have been modified to some extent, of making arrangements to finalise their purchases and it is expected that quite a number of imported animals will be arriving in New Zealand towards the end of this year.
