ODDS AND ENDS

Remove iron mould stains from white linen or cotton by covering the stains with cream of tartar, putting them into cold water, and slowly beating them till they reach boiling point. If the material is then washed the stains should disappear. Clean the edges of books which have become soiled by holding the books tightly down on a table and rubbing the edges with stale bread or pencil eraser. Clamping them down tightly prevents the pages frem crumpling up with the rubbing. When butter and sugar must be creamed quickly and are hard stand the mixing bowl in hot water for r. minute to warm it. Be careful not to leave it too long, or the butter will melt and be useless for creaming. To clean copper use half a lemon dipped in salt. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth afterwards. Carpets in rooms which are se'dom used are apt to be attacked by motns. Salt sprinkled round the edges of Ihe carpet and well under it will prevent this. Plenty of light and air should be admitted into the rooms, as moths like close, dark places. The hardest water may be softened by mixing two teaspoonsful of glycerine in a tumbler of water. Use a little as required, in the washing water.
