SHIPPING PORT OF TIMARU

Many Movements To-day Five Vessels To Sail There was considerable activity at the Port of Timaru again yesterday when two coastal vessels arrived and the Arawa and the Benwyvis continued their homeward loading. Tire Waimarino arrived from Dunedin to load for Wellington and Auckland and sailed later for Lyttelton, and the Storm arrived • from Wellington to load wool for transhipment to the Doric Star at Port Chalmers. To-day the Port Whangarei is due from Dunedin to load for Tauranga, Auckland and Whangarei and the Holmglen is expected from Dunedin to load for Wellington and New Plymouth. Both will sail later for Lyttelton. The Benwyvis which arrived on Wednesday and has been loading wool should sail either late to-night or early this morning and the Arawa should complete her loading this afternoon and sail at 6 p.m. The Gale is due from Oarnaru to load for Wellington and Wanganui. COASTAL VESSELS Listed Movements The Breeze is expected to arrive on Monday from Lyttelton to pick up wool. She is due back on March 31 to load for Wellington and Wanganui. The Holmdale is due from Oarnaru on Tuesday to load for Wellington, Picton and Wanganui, via Lyttelton. The Waipiata is due on Tuesday

She will sail on the same day for Oarnaru. The Waipahi is due from Oarnaru on Thursday to load for Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth via Lyttelton. Cornwall’s Progress The Federal steamer Cornwall left Wellington yesterday for Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge of Liverpool cargo. Otaio Leaves Cape Town The New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor ship Otaio, outward bound in ballast from Liverpool for New Zealand, sailed from Cape Town last Saturday afternoon. She is due in New Zealand on April 11. Northumberland Clears Curacao The Federal steamer Northumberland, which left Falmouth on March 1 in ballast for New Zealand, sailed from Curacao on Friday last. She is due in New Zealand about April 15. Rangitata Sailing As a result of delays at Wellington owing to the waterfront dispute of the past few days, the departure for London of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rangitata, scheduled for April 6, has had to be postponed, and a further delay will be caused by the Easter holidays, and it is now proposed to dispatch the Rangitata from Wellington on April 13. The vessel’s accommodation is fully booked, and her passengers from New Zealand will include a party of travellers who will be conducted on a tour of Great Britain. The Port Gisborne J. W. Swift and Company advise that the Port Gisborne is due at Lyttelton from London direct on Sunday, and is expected at Dunedin about March 30. The Port Denison H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the Port Denison will leave Bluff at 3 a.m. to-day for Port Chalmers to complete Homeward loading. She is to sail finally on Tuesday for London via Cape Hom. London’s Shipping During the week ended February 17 954 vessels, representing 1,041,199 net register tons, used the port of London. Of these, 473 vessels (821,810 net register tons), were to and from Empire and foreign ports, and 481 vessels (219,389 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included five meat cargoes—one from Australia, two from New Zealand, and two from South America, comprising 200,000 carcases of lamb and mutton, 104,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits, and sundries. During the week ended February 24, 967 vessels, representing 916,209 net register tons, used the port of London. Of these, 462 vessels (703,232 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports and 505 vessels (212,977 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included five meat cargoes—three from Australia, one from New Zealand, and one from South America, comprising 167,000 carcases of lamb and mutton, 58,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits, and sundries.
