Welcome

Elizabeth McLarer, Cave, Robert Smith, Timaru, Max Bellam, Timaru.

the children’s races, but it was fun watching the other races. After a lot of the other things were over there was a pony trotting race. All my school-mates had their ponies there. A girl named Helen Bishop won it. A few minutes afterwards it began to rain and we went and had afternoon tea. After a while the cake was cut and speeches made and we got our medals. It had stopped raining then and everybody had their photos taken. On Boxing Day we went to the Walmate sports, which were very enjoyable. I was going to dance but there was no teacher to give me any lessons before-hand, so I was unable to perform. Give my love to all your Circlians, from, Grace White, Otaio Dear Peter Pan, I hope you had a very happy Christmas and New Year. Did you go anywhere on Christmas and New Year’s bay? We went to our Grandma’s place for Christmas dinner and tea, but did not go anywhere on New Year’s Day. We went to Waimatfe on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. There were a lot of crackers! A few days before Christmas we went to Timaru for a day. It was the day of the wool sale. I was sorry to see that the “Adventures of Michael” had ended. Did you' get many Christmas presents? I got a lot. Our puss, which we call Tim, has grown to be nearly a cat now. Our holidays will soon be over now. We start school on February 6 or 7. We have had a lot of gooseberries but what with the birds taking them and all of us eating them they seemed to go. We had quite a few black currants, but they have all gone now. We had not many red currants this year. Do you like gooseberries and j>lack currants? I do! We have a lot of poppies in bloom now and roses. Our cabbages and lettuces are ready for use. We are shearing our sheep now. Before I Started to write to you I was reading and doing all the Funland puzzles. We have had a lot of rain here lately, but the last few days have been very hot. We have two calves and five cows just now. Have you had any bathes I haven’t, because we have all had colds and have not bothered to go to the river. Can you play tennis? I can, but I can’t play very well. Wishing you good luck for 1939, your loving Circlian, Joan Millar, Waihao Forks. Dear Peter Pan, How did you enjoy Christmas? I

enjoyed it very much. There were seventeen of us for Christmas dinner. One of our Aunties was in bed but we were able to bring her down for Christmas dinner. Jean and I have been up in Christchurch for nine days. While we were there we went to Karachi, Waikuku, and Coes Ford. While at Karachi we went to see where the Waimakariri river goes out to the sea. We are going up to stay at Lake Pukaki on January 28, and while at Pukaki we intend going to the Hermitage and the Waitaki Hydro. Your loving Circlian, Fiona Shanks, Fairlie. Dear Peter Pan. I must start by telling you how I spent Christmas. Well, on Christmas Eve we went to town in our car. and then, after putting it in the garage,

we went to the Majestic Theatre to see “Dad and Dave Come to Town.” We thought it quite good. We then went out to Salisbury and spent the Christmas at Granny’s. We had a wonderful time. I have a dear wee kitten called Pickles. He is a greyish-blue. Your Circlian, Edna June Baird, Springbrook. Dear Peter Pan. Thank you for the Membership Cards you sent to Jim and me. Mother took us to Wendon Valley for our holiday, and we had a good time there, too. It is twenty-five miles from Gore, and it was a long journey in the train. We went to Geraldine to the dentist yesterday. It was a lovely day and we had a picnic in the Domain. Love from, Jessie Rogers, Orari.
