TEMUKA NATIONAL FITNESS WEEK

Enjoyable Community Sing

Function in Domain As part of the National Fitness Week campaign an enjoyable community sing, dancing and a bonfire were held at the Temuka Domain on Thursday night. Under the leadership of Mr A. Shrimpton the large crowd soon caught the spirit of the old and modern songs, and although the tempo was somewhat syncopated at times, it detracted nothing from the enthusiasm of the people. As a prelude to the sing the Temuka Municipal Band were applauded for their tuneful playing of populai- numbers. The success of the dances which were held on the Domain was in no small measure due to the piano accompaniments of Mr E. Sinclair. Two songs by Mr A. Shrimpton were warmly appreciated. At the bonfire the Fire Brigade, by playing coloured lights on streams of water from two hoses, added the necessary touch to complete the carnival spirit

“HER JUNGLE LOVE” Three new songs, written by one -f Hollywood’s best known teams, will be heard for the first time in Paramount’s new Dorothy Lamour-Ray Milland Technicolour romance, “Her Jungle Love,” when it opens to-day at the Elite Theatre. They are: “Jungle Love,” “Coffee and Kisses” and “Lovelight in the Starlight,” from the pens of Ralph Freed and Frederick Hollander, who wrote the recent hit, “Moonlight and Shadows," introduced by Miss Lamour and Milland in their “Jungle Princess.” In addition to the new popular tunes, genuine native melodies and chants, gathered from Samoa and other sub-tropcal isles, form the musical background of “Her Jungle Love." Under the direction of Boris Morros, old South Seas love songs and battle chants were adapted for inclusion in the picture and furnish a realistic background for this story of love on a remote South Pacific island. NOTES A holiday for all business establishments in Temuka will be observed cn March 2 in lieu of December 16 on account of the Temuka School picnic. The holiday will be observed independent of weather conditions. Judging by the efforts of the committee the outing should be an unqualified success. Mr S. H. Mayne, F.S.M.C., F. 1.0.
