THE HERRING MAN
The man selling herrings Shouts a lot. A great big voice The herring man’s got. And all the cats In all the square Say, “Hurry, cats, huny, The herring man’s there.” But never a penny • Piece they pay, Though he serves them each time He comes that way. And they purr around him, And rub his feet— The pussy-cat people Who shop in the street. As though they said “Thank you, To-day my wish Is a slice, if you please, From your very best fish.”
