IN THE SAND-PILE
The sand-pile’s where I like to play! I could be happy there all day! I like to tunnel way down deep Or pile it in a great big heap. I like to build a castle grand, And play I’m king of all the land. I like to dig a little pond—(Of sail-boats I am very fond!) I fill it with my new tin pail, And there’s a lake where they can sail! And sometimes, I just sift the sand, And let it trickle through my hand. I like to build a little town, With streets and houses golden brown. I plant the lawns with trees and flowers, And ’round it all put walls and towers. And 'then I fill my sprinkling can, And play that I’m the Weather Man, And make the rain come pouring down Upon my little sandy town, Until it is all washed away—(l’ll build another one some day!)
