Fierce Attacks on Jews

United Press Association—By E3*ctxic Tel egra o h —Copyrlgh t BERLIN, November The first reprisals for the shooting of Dr von Rath, Secretary to the German Embassy in Paris, have been announced. All Jewish cultural performances are banned until the end of the year. This will affect the activities of the Cultural League, which was formed under Nazi auspices. Anti-Jewish demonstrations have occurred at Cassel and Bebra. A mob at Cassel smashed the windows of Jewish shops and forced an entrance to the Synagogue, where they destroyed the furniture. Those in well-informed circles believe that the authorities are considering the expulsion of all foreign Jews. Anti-Jewish Wave A new anti-Jewish wave has swept Germany as a result of the von Rath shooting. In addition to the suppression of cultural performances new bans have been imposed on all Jewish publications and meetings. Jewish children in future will be refused admittance to the German primary schools. The Berlin correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” states that Jews remained indoors throughout the day for fear of riots. Nazi leaders and Government officials are holding a conference to-morrow to draw up a plan ior an intensified anti-Jewish drive. In the meantime Jews have been ordered to report dai’y to the police and are forbidden to change their residence. The Vienna correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” reports that serious outbreaks are feared should Dr. von Rath die. Jews are already being increasingly mclested in the street and a genuine panic has broken out among the Jews. All possible are going into the country. DISORDERS SPREADING ANTI-JEWS CAMPAIGN United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 9, 6.30 p.m.) BERLIN, November 8. Anti-Jewish disorders are spreading. The authorities ascribe them to “Popular indignation against the shooting of Dr von Rath.” Synagogues, shops and houses have been stoned in numerous centres and shopkeepers beaten up. CONDITION OF VICTIM LITTLE HOPE OF RECOVERY United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph -Copyright LONDON, November 8. A Paris message states that there is little hope for Dr. von Rath’s life. “I regret the act and obeyed an impulse stronger than myself,” said Grynszpan, the youth vho fired the shot, when examined by a Magistrate fter a night in gaol. A later Paris message reports that Dr. Rath’s condition remains critical and the bullets have not been removed. ATTACK ON CRITICS BRITISH M.P. Under the heading of “Jewish murderers and their instigators,” the the newspaper “Angriff” publishes reports of Mr Winston Churchill, Mr A. Duff-Cooper, Mr C. R. Attlee, Grynszpan, Emil Ludwig and the Frenchman, Georges Mandel, and declares: “Ifr is not by chance that while Mr Churchill and his group hypocritically manoeuvres and rearms that a weapon goes off in the hand of a youth. Mr Arthur’ Greenwood’s miserable efforts are morally responsible for Jews raising revolvers against Germans.” The police announce that in the past few weeks they have confiscated from Jews 2569 daggers, 1792 firearms and 20,000 cartridges.
