POLICE RAID
MASKED MAN ARRESTED By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, October 28. Two car loads of detectives, some of them armed, made a raid on the premises of Wilson, Balk and Co., Ltd., merchants, early this evening, and captured a man in a yard at the back of the building.. He was promptly arrested and will appear before the Magistrate in the City Police Court to-morrow morning. The raid, which was carried out by five detectives and two constables in plain clothes from the Central Station, was made at 8.15.
The party, led by Detective-Sergeant T. Y. Hall, went to the premises in Jetty Street in two cars and quickly surrounded the building. Detectives Gibson and Brown and Acting-Detec-tive McDougall gained entry into the premises from the front, but evidently disturbed by the noise, the intrud'r, who had a handkerchief over the lower part of his face, ran out through the back into the yard and endeavoured to escape over a high gate, the top of which was covered with barbed wire. He was called on to halt by DetectiveSergeant Taylor, who was stationed outside the gate, and Detective Gibson, following closely behind the man, promptly arrested him. He was put into one of the cars and taken to the Central Police Station. The raid was efficiently carried out, the whole incident being over in a few minutes.
