Mr Grigg Increases Majority One Vote To Come By Telegraph—Press Association ASHBURTON. October 26. With one absent vote to be dealt with, the position hi the Mid-Canterbury electorate is:— A. N. Grigg (N.) 5504 H. E. Herring (L.) .. .. 5429 Majority for Grigg .... 75 Declaration votes were: Grigg two, I Herring, four. Absent: Grigg, 257, Herring, 263. Postal: Grigg, 119, Herring, 96. Informal, 36. On the night of the poll, Grigg had an announced majority of 48. TIMARU FIGURES OFFICIAL RECOUNT The final figures for the polling in the Timaru Electorate in the General Election on October 15 have been announced by the District Returning Officer, Mr W. Harte. The Labour candidate, Mr C. L. Carr, has been declared elected with a majority of 2,19" votes i over the National candidate, Mr W. H. ! Hall. The total number of valid votes cast was 12,396, informal votes numbering 78. The poll was a greater one than in 1935, when few more than 11,500 votes were cast, and is probably a record for the electorate. The poll resulted this year as allows! C. L. Carr (L.) 7296 W. H. VOTES WRONGLY CREDITED EFFECT IN BAY OF PLENTY ELECTORATE By Telegrson Association AUCKLAND, October 26. Because of a mistake at the Kaiteratahi booth, Mr A. G. Hultqulst, the Labour candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat, was wrongly credited with an additional 37 votes. The adjustment of this mistake has reduced his lead over the National candidate, Mr W. Sullivan to 124. The figures now are: Hultqulst 4632; Sullivan 4508. It is also reported that between 50 and 100 Maoris voted. Approximately 600 postal and absentee votes have still to be counted, and the official count will not be completed for several more days, as the ballot papers from the backblock dsltricts have been late in arriving at Opotikl.
