TWO BIRTHDAYS
CHAMPAGNE ON WOMEN’S 100th ANNIVERSARIES
Two women have recently celebrated the hundredth anniversary of their birthday this week.
Mrs Ann Spanton Middleton, of Folkestone, has been a teetotaller all her life, but she celebrated with champagne and iced cake at her party. The King and Queen sent a telegram of congratulations.
Mrs Helen Pearson, of Cliftonville, walks from Cliftonville to Margate, a distance of about three miles, every day to do her shopping. She also looks after her own garden and knits without glasses. She likes to be considered a modern woman. At a hotel dinner given in her honour she will have soup, sole, chicken, charlotte russe, and champagne. The orchestra will play “I’m Twenty-one To-day” when she enters the room.
