PLEASANT POINT

SCHOOL COMMITTEE At the monthly meeting of the Pleasant Point District High School Committee, those present were Mrs W. T. Taylor (chairwoman), Mrs W. R. Cartwright, Messrs R. Esler, R. McPherson, J. Dent and W. J. Crawford. Apologies were received from Messrs W. J. Halkett, R. Moore and S. C. Gibb (headmaster). It was reported that the new school buildings would be ready for use at the beginning of the term. The drainage of the grounds was nearing completion. It was decided to keep the school closed for another week because of the prevalence of measles and influenza. The assistance of parents is being requested for the school spring flower show this month. NATIONAL PARTY BALL Much credit is due to the energetic committee which organised the National Party ball. The hall was almost filled to capacity, and effective decorations made a gay display. Visitors were present from all parts of South Canterbury. Novelty dances were won as follows: Monte Carlo waltz, Mr D. McLeod and Miss O’Connor; Monte Carlo one-step, Mr McDougal and Miss McDonald. The supper tables were decorated with spring flowers and japonica. Nondancers played progressive euchre, the winners being Mrs J. Chapman and Mr W. Blackwood. Messrs J. Tindall and P. White were masters o' ceremonies.
