THROTTLED BY OLD AGED PENSIONER United Press Association—By Electric TcJoizraph—Copyrlgnt (Received August 28, 11.52 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 28. Strangled by an elderly invalid pensioner in a suburban park on Saturday night, a thief was killed, while attempting to rob a pensioner. The dead man was 23 years of age, and had a criminal record. The police, summoned to the scene, found a dead man lying across the pensioner’s arm. The latter being apparently in a state of collapse with his fingers still entwined in the dead man's tie and collar. The pensioner’s face and scalp were severely lacerated. On recovery he said the thief had spoken to him and induced him to enter the park where he attacked him, demanding money. A long struggle followed and in a desperate attempt to save himself, the old man seized his assailant’s collar shirt and twisted it against the windpipe. Hearing cries, a pedestrian came to the old man’s assistance and telephoned for the police. After treatment in hospital, the pensioner was allowed to go home.
