A SUPER NURSERY
TO BE OPENED IN LONDON One of the Queen’s November engagements, that of opening the new Westminster Child Welfare Centre and Day Nursery in Bessborough Street on tl ? 25th of this month, will interest her deeply, states a London writer. Two floors of this building have been leased to the City of Westminster Day Nursery, which is run by voluntary workers. Lady Diana Duff-Cooper, Miss Olga Lynn, and the Hon. Mrs Douglas Vickers are members of a committee who have set a fashion in day nursery decoration by their decisions. Lettuce green and lime yellow baths and basins of varying sizes have been installed for the daily bath that 80 to 90 children have immediately on theiarrival between 7.30 and eight a.m. Tiny babies’ baths have a wooden drying shelf beside them. All towel rails are heated. Stainless metal sinks and drying boards have been installed in the lettuce green and cream kitchen. The Queen will see an electric potato peeler and a gas-oprated boiler solely "or porridge and milk, and additional white enamelled kitchen tables that slide out from fitted green cupboards. Miniature Children’s Hotel Other details upon which this committee have laid great stress in a beautiful new building are a linen room fitted with heated cupboards, a pram garage running the length of the building, and crinoline-shaped railings to the wide sun balconies so that the children cannot climb up and over them. On another floor the Queen will seen a miniature hotel for children, where about half a dozen will be able to stay while their parents are away or ill. Their bedrooms look out on to a garden with two old trees, and they will have their own kitchen and bathroom. Burmese teak is being used for the floors, because its slightly “tacky” surface prevents children slipping. From Leicestershire come all the mellow rust and brown bricks used in the building, made by a 100-year-old method, to withstand soot.
