Won by a length, a length and a half between second and third. WARWICK STAKES, Of £600; 7 furlongs Stretto (Bartie) 1 Gold Rod (McCarten) 2 Royal Chief (O’Sullivan) 3 All started. Stretto was the pacemaker when the field settled down from Buzalong, King’s Head, Gold Rod and Royal Chief was handy. Gold Rod challenged Stretto as they neared the post, but Stretto held him off to win by a neck, with Royal Chief a length away third. Time—lmin 26Ssec. Rotorua was unplaced in the Hobartville Stakes.
