Time—lmin 15 3-ssec. fl After leading practically all the way, Gold Wren scored a hollow victory in the Otago Hunt Cup, the win being his fourth in succession. Tomcat went with him for nearly a mile, then Gfild Wren went ahead and Uncle Jim moved into second place. Thereafter the further he went the further Gold Wren edged away, and the Riverton gelding cantered in a long way in front of Uncle Jim, who beat off Tomcat’s challenge in the straight. • • • • The next Inter-Dominion trotting ''championship” meeting is still in the air. The Launceston committee has fixed on December 31, January 3, 5 and 7 as the dates for the gathering, and has allotted £3500 for prize money, just half the minimum required by the decision of the last conference of delegates. The amount set aside for the championship series is £2050, of which £lOOO is to go to the grand final. That leaves £lO5O for the qualifying events, and assuming that there will be two heats at each of the three distances, the prize-money for each heat will be £175. That will not attract good horses from New Zealand, and even if the executive should agree to the Tasmanian proposals, the meeting would be a championship only in name.

In the ordinary way it would be the turn of New South Wales to conduct the 1940 Inter-Dominion trotting meeting, but neither of the Sydney clubs desires to run it—both are more interested in greyhound racing. Some enthusiasts at Goulburn took the matter up, and the clubs in that district, about 140 miles south of Sydney, offered to stage the meeting if the New South Wales Trotting Club (the ruling body) would grant a subsidy or guarantee Goulburn against loss. As was expected, the Sydney body turned down this proposal, and the prospects of New South Wales taking its turn are remote. It is the same in Queensland and Victoria, and if the championship is to survive it seems likely that it will be held on the following itinerary— Perth, Auckland, Adelaide, Christchurch.
