RECORD LAND SPEED
SUCCESS OF BRITISH MOTORIST
American to Attack Time Amazing Dash on Sands League Official Wireless (Received August 28. 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, August 27. A new world land speed record was «et up by Captain Eyston to-day at Bonneville (Salt Flats). Captain Eyston’s official time for the two runs over a measured mile gave an average of 345.49 miles an hour. Tire northbound run was at 347.49 miles an hour and the southbound at 343.48. The record of 312.2 miles an hour was set up on the same course last November by Captain Eyston. when he beat Sir Malcolm Campbell's record of 301.47 miles an hour. Success of “Thunderbolt” The "Thunderbolt” had been painted with black bands in order to better actuate the electric timing device. Mr John Cobb, the Australian born racing motorist, was among the first to congratulate him. Captain Eyston said he would remain until Mr Cobb’s trials were completed, in case it would be necessary to try to exceed the latter’s speed.
