Daladier), told the Radical Socialists that he had nothing to add or to withdraw from his broadcast speech on August 21. England, Sweden and Belgium worked a 48-hour week in most Industries essential in the interests of defence and firms requiring extra hours have them without prohibitive overtime. The National Committee of the Popular Front has passed a resolution expressing its unanimous determination to maintain the Popular Front aganist the reaction of Fascism, to uphold the inviolability of social legislation and to satisfy all the needs of national defence. An interpretation of the resolution is that it not only leaves the door open for compromise, but implies that a solution can be found reconciling Socialist susceptibilities with the defence programme.
