Playing very consistent golf, Misses Sydney-Jones and Ebert won the Australian Women’s Foursomes Championship. Strong New Zealand combinations comprising Mrs Fullerton-Smith and Miss Helean who were runners-up and Misses Horwell and Fleming who were fifth played below form. The following are the results.— Ist 2nd Tl. Misses Sydney-Jones and V. Ebert 81 85—166 Mi's Fullerton-Smith and Miss D. Helean 82 87—169 Misses J. Horwell and V. Fleming 84 87—171 Other New Zealanders’ scores were as follows: Misses HLston and Crowe .. 84 89—173 Misses Williams and Crobie 89 87—176 Misses Hornabrook and Bell 86 91—177 Misses Mcßae and Sale .. 90 95—185 Misses Rutherford and Cameron 94 94—188 Mrs Fullerton-Smith and Miss P. healeaon after a birdie three at the first hole in the morning round, took four putts at the second and thereafter putted without confidence and were otherwise unsteady. In the afternoon round Miss Helean was completely out of touch, slicing her woods and irons and generally giving Mrs FullertonSmith poor support. Misses V. Fleming and J. Horwell began badly in the first round, being out in 43, seven strokes over pr.r figures, but they improved coming home to be in third position. Their afternoon r nd was marred by very weak putting. Miss Fleming who hitherto has been brilliant on the greens missed several putts of two feet and less. The New Zealander, Miss HLston and the seventeen-year-old Miss Crowe of Sydney, playing with a 10 handicap, won the eighteen holes stroke handicap which was played in conjunction with the first round of the championship, with a net 74. Miss Rutherford who was granted permission to play in waterproof slacks on Monday owing to pouring rain, created a surprise by appearing similarly dressed to-day when brilliant sunshine prevailed.
