GOOD RESPONSE

District Nurse Appeal Collectors Have Busy Day Public appreciation of the excellent work that has been carried out in Timaru for many years by the Mary Raymond District Nurse Committee was demonstrated yesterday by the whole-hearted response to the annual Street Day. The District Nurse is a well-known and esteemed figure in Timaru and many have cause to be grateful for her efficient and sympathetic ministrations. As a result of the day the sum of £7B/19/111 was raised to assist in carrying on the work. With donations totalling £7l/13/-, the result ol the appeal to date is £l5O, 12/lli, a sum below that realised last year. The success ol the appeal was in no small measure due to the many helpers who cheerfully took up the task of collecting in the streets and whose boxes were well-filled with contributions. Mesdames D. McLennan, F. Lewis and T. P. Crowe were in charge of the three stands in the town from which the many helpers so successfully operated. The District Nurse (Sister Adams) was amongst the many w’ho collected.

Stalls were located at the Wentworth, those in charge being: Cakes and produce, Mrs G. J Wallace; flowers, Mesdames T. E. Holdgate and Mrs F. Clissold; refreshments for helpers. Mrs Huddlestone. Regret was expressed that Mrs Mary Raymond, president of the organisation, was unable through indisposition to take an active part in the appeal yesterday. Valuable assistance was given by the secretary (Miss Fussell). Officials of the committee spoke very highly of the excellent assistance that had been given by the many helpers, and expressed gratification at the public response. Thanks were extended also to the Timaru newspapers for their help in the appeal. Donations were received yesterday
