INTENSE COMPETITION IN SHIPPING JAPO-GERMAN ACTIVITY United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph- Copyright (Received July 30, 6.30 p.m.) ROME, July 30. Italian shipping is suffering an early disadvantage from the Anschluss. A German line has begun a regular service from Trieste to the Near East, leading to a further diversion of trade from languishing Hume and forcing the Italians to accept lower freights and pay higher harbour dues at alien ports. Another blow to Italy from political friends is expected in the Japanese use of Trieste under the trade campaign in South Germany.
