BRILLIANT WIN FOR ALL BLACKS

Opening of Australian Tour State Team Decisively Beaten South Canterbury Men Shape Well United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received July 17., 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 17. The All Blacks opened their Australian tour grandly with a win over New South Wales by 28 points to 8. j They gave every indication that they will mould into a fine side which is unlikely to be beaten. Hard and Clean Match The match was hard and clean and there were many brilliant movements. The ground v as on the soft side after the overnight rain, and a patch in the centre of the field was slightly slippery. The Teams The opposing teams lined out as under: NEW ZEALAND Age. Weight. Height. Full-back

Morrison Opens Score New South Wales repeatedly won the scrums in the early stages but were unable to penetrate. Rankin missed a goal almost in front of the posts. Morrison opened the scoring after fifteen minutes with a beautiful try, due to Mitchell’s opening. Taylor goaled. The New' Zealand forwards were superior in the rucks and faster in the loose, and only stout defence kept them out. From a ruck in the New South Wales twenty-five, Sullivan cent out a long pass to Mitchell, who swerving and fending, ctA through the centres and crossed for a try. Sullivan scored the next try from an opening by Berghan. Taylor converted. Glorious Concerted Work A try by Parkhill a few minutes before the interval, was the most glorious of the match. Seven men handled, featuring in reverse passing, the ball finally coming in from Morrison to King and then to Parkhill. At half-time the score was: New Zealand 18 New South Wales .... 0 Home Side Rallies New South Wales Hied brilliantly in the second spell. Malone’s try was nearly as spectacular as Parkhill's, backs and forwards handling after Richards had burst through. Morrison once saved „ certain try by racing across from the left A’ing to ground Hodgson who had swerved past Taylor. Morrison's tackle was only a yard from (he line. Plenty of hrust Invariably Sullivan or Mitchell straightened up the attack with penetrative bursts. Tire home centres, Smith and Miller, were too slow and inexperienced. The final score was: New Zealand 28 New South Wales 8 Form Discussed Saxton gave magnificent diving passes. Berghan was almost flawless, Sullivan and Mitchell were brilliant and both were much faster than the opposing centres. Mitchell was the inspiring agent in all the moves. Taylor was safe. Grand Lot of Forwards It is hard to single out the New Zealand forwards. All were conscientious ruckers. Dalton, Quaid and George more than held their own in the front row. King and McKenzie were excellent in the open. Hodgson was übiquitous and the best forward on the Held. Richards was always adventurous but overworked in cover defence. Rankin was cool and was not responsible for New Zealand’s tries. The New Zealand forwards packed splendidly and were much superior to their predecessors. The scrum was evenly balanced. Except in the first twenty minutes when New South Wales repeatedly |

raked the ball, New Zealand preponderated the scrams. Despite New Zealand’s dominance and the safe lead, a crowd of over 25,000 was thrilled by the spectacular moves. The scorers for New Zealand were: Morrison, Mitchell (2), Sullivan (2), Parkhill. Taylor kicked five goals. For New South Wales, Malone scored a try which Rankin converted, and he also kicked a penalty goal.
