Sir Edward Beatty, chairman of the Canadian-Pacific Steamship Co., Ltd., hopes to place a contract in England almost immediately for two 25.000-ton-ners, 23-knot steamers for the Austra-lian-Canadian service, at a total cost of £3,000,000. The final agreement has yet not been reached. New Zealand has not accept-
ed some of the less serious features of the proposal. The others have agreed. The replacement of the Atlantic tonnage is under consideration, and the company may possibly build a speedier sister-ship to the Empress of Britain in 1940. Next year the two Empresses on tlie Hongkong service will replace the Empress of Russia and the Empress of Asia. The total orders in the next triennium will amount to £11,000,000.
