The weather for the All Blacks match against New South Wales tomorrow promises to be fine, crisp and bright with a hard ground. The greatest interest is being taken by Sydney residents, and New Zealanders who are assembling in full force. A record crowd is expected. The newspaper critics here predict that the New South Wales men will fully extend the New Zealanders and may even defeat them. VISITORS’ FORM IMPRESSES POPULARITY IN AUSTRALIA United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, July 15. Although apprehension is felt in local Rugby circles following the disorganisation of the originally chosen New South Wales side New Zealand Is not likely to underrate Its opponents in Saturday’s debut. A most serious blow was the loss of Windon, but Kelly, the substitute, is an outstanding tucker. The New South Wales centres Smith and Miller are both young with the faculty of straightening up attacking moves, and are unlikely to cramp the wings.
The New Zealand forwards, averaging half a stone heavier, cannot afford to adopt loose tactics. Mr A. MacDonald has concentrated on scrummage practice. The formation has been satisfactory and the balance better than New South Wales. Mr Johnnie Wallace, the coach, is relying on Stone’s hooking to give New South Wales at least an equal share of the set scrummages, which past history warrants. New Zealand should prove superior in the line-out. where there are indications that they possess greater knowledge. Everyone is expecting displays by Bcrghan and Sullivan reminiscent of Mark Nichols and Cooke. They have an outstanding rival in Richards, who is an expert In originating moves from broken play.
The New Zealand selection of the forwards indicates that they are fully alive to the danger of a loose game.
