Increasing Use of Fertilisers

It is interesting to review the increase in the transport of fertilisers in the North Island during recent years. In 1934 the total quantity of fertilisers trucked in the North Island was 393, 308 tons. By 1935 this had increased to 471,332 tons, and by the following year to 492,574. Last year, for the first time, the half million figure was topped, the amount of fertilisers carried by rail being 554,731 tons. This proved too great a quantity to be handled without difficulty with the number of trucks available, as also has the quantity carried during the year ending March 31. 1938, which showed a further marked increase to a total of 758,493 tons.
