The reluctance of buyers to bid for store cattle at a recent Waipukurau sale caused some exasperation to the auctioneers. One of the latter, unable to secure an offer for a line of goodquality three-year-old steers, exclaimed: “Come, gentlemen, you have a good Government and the surplus in the dairy account is £2,500.000. so who will give me seven notes?” The remark brought a ripple of laughter, but failed to draw a bid.
