HOSPITAL PATIENT
FOUND STRANGLED BY NURSE By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, July 15. An inquest into the death of William Frank Quick, photo-engraver, aged 54, at the Auckland Hospital on Thursday night, was opened before Mr F. K. Hunt, coroner. Evidence was produced to show that Quick was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and placed in the annexe of ward 2. At 9.30 on Thursday night the nurse went in to administer a sedative and found him with a sheet pulled over his face. She removed the sheet and saw that a handkerchief covered his mouth and a bootlace was tied tightly around his neck. A house surgeon was summoned, artificial respiration treatment was given, but Quick failed to respond. According to the police there were no suspicious circumstances. Oliver George. Dibley, engineer, said he had known Quick for about 20 years. For some time he had been unemployed. Although he had enjoyed normal health, he had never been robust. He recently returned from Sydney in bad health, but he was not attended by a doctor. Witness said Quick was very temperamental, but witness never heard him say he would end his life. He had a wife and six children. The inquest was adjourned.
