WAIMATE COUNTY CRUSHER
Removal to Makikihi First Shift Under Way After being in operation at Lundy’s Crossing at the Waihao River for the past six weeks, the Waimate County Council’s new crushing plant is this week being shifted to McGovern’s crossing in the Makakihi Riding. The County Engineer told a reporter that he hoped to have the plant in working order early next week. It would be in the new position for about six weeks, crushing metal for the roads in the Makikihi and Deep Creek ridings. The average crushing plant in use by contractors requires about three weeks’ assembly before being ready for operation. Mr Black stated that the county portable plant could be moved from one place to another and be at work in a few days. A start is to be made shortly on the preparation of the road between Waimate and McNamara’s corner for tar sealing. The work has been held up because most of the county’s plant has been engaged in repairing flood damage throughout the county.
