PARKING ON BUS STAND
CLEARER MARKING SUGGESTION A suggestion that consideration might be given to a more obvious means of marking municipal omnibus stands in Stafford Street was made in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court yesterday by Mr H. Morgan, S.M., when six motorists were charged with parking their cars at night on a stand opposite the Regent Theatre. Mr Morgan suggested that red lights should be placed at each end of the bus stand or that an illuminated notice be erected there, as cn a wet night there would be difficulty i.i seeing the lettering on the street. The area was available for parking in the day time and people got into the ». r.t
of leaving their cars there. The borough traffic inspector (Mr C. H. Newcombe) said he had made a recommendation to the Council to put standards at the bus stands and the matter would be considered at the next meeting. The defendants, each of whom was ordered to pay costs varying 'rom 3/to 12/-, were: John Drummond, Andrew James Tate, Mervyn Raymond, Robert Hudson W. Thomson, Thomas D. Urquhart, and Havelock A. Williams. For parking in Strathallan Street for longer than the specified time, John Charles Pattie was fined 15/-, and ordered to pay costs 3/-. As a result of a raid carried c. by traffic officers several motorists were charged with failing to carry warrants of fitness for their cars. Fines were imposed as follows:—Joan Rachel Savill £l, costs 10/-; Walter Gudex 10/-, costs 14/6; John Shaw Mcßride, Albert Becklngsale and Stewart Leslie 5/-, costs 10/-.
