STRIKE OPPOSED
DECISION OF RAILYWAY UNIONISTS United Press Association—By Slectrlc Telegraph —Copyright (Received July 11, 9.40 p.m.) BRISBANE, July 11. The railway unionists yesterday discussed a proposal for a general strike. They expressed strong opposition to that course, and it is now believed the three main railway unions, which advocated a hold-up, will obey the majority and allow the Arbitration Court to redress their grievances.
A serious railway strike was threatened in Queensland on Wednesday last, due to the intention of the Minister of Railways to impose fines on three railwaymen for attending a stopwork meeting. A vote was to be taken on Sunday to decide whether a general strike should be precipitated which would probably involve New South Wales. A large percentage of railway employees of Queensland are opposed to direct action.
