HOCKEY

INDIANS BEAT OAMARU By Telegraph- Press Association OAMARU, July 11. The touring Indian hockey team had an easy win over North Otago by nine goals to one in a match played here to-day before a large crowd of spectators. A soft and muddy ground militated against fast play, but the Indians clearly showed their superiority in combination and stickwork. North Otago defended most of the time, and were seldom within the Indian circle. Fernandez and Shahabuddin were at the head of most of India’s attacks. For India goals were scored by Abdul Latif (3), Feroz Khan, Sultan Khan, Fernandez, Shahabuddin and Hassain. For North Otago Clark goaled from a penalty bully just before the final whistle.

WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION Two representative hockey teams from South Canterbury journeyed to Oamaru on Saturday io play Oamaru. The home teams won both matches. The grounds were very wet and muddy. At the dinner after the match opportunity was taken to thank the Oamaru Association for its hospitality. Saturday fixtures are: Rata v. Albury at Albury; Stafford v. Bruces at Park; Winchester a bye.
