Herr Hitler has promulgated a decree imposing a uniform marriage and divorce law throughout the Reich, including Austria, where the effect will be most felt. “It is no longer tolerable to Nazi statesmanship,” says the decree, “that the majority of marriages in Austria should be conducted by a priest alone, without any participation by the State.” Henceforth the only valid marriage will be one contracted before a registrar in the name of the Reich.
