WIN AND PLACE SYSTEM
GERALDINE MEETING A proposal to adopt the ‘‘win and place" dividend system at the Geraldine Racing Club’s forthcoming meeting was carried by eight votes to three at a meeting of the committee on ; Thursday evening. Messrs L. J. Grant and A. South . moved, that the 75-25 per cent, pool ' system be adopted for the coming i meeting. In proposing an amendment that the win and place system be adopted, Mr I A. J. Burmester remarked that it would j be the best method from the club’s point of view. It was no use shutting their eyes to the “bookies,” and a lot of money went away from Orari instead of through the totalisator. There was no question that the win and place totalisator got the money from the public. Mr J. D. McKechnie, who seconded the amendment, said that a large proportion of racing enthusiasts favoured the win and place system. In reply to Mr W. J. Quirk, the pre- I sident 'Mr D. Macdonald) said that I the win and place system would mean I an increase of a half per cent, for th? I totalisator charge. Mr G. Fletcher: I am quite sure it will be for the benefit of ihc club. Mr Burmester: That is my idea. Mr A. G. Macdonald: You have got to study the small bettor. The amendment was carried.
