WOOL OUTLOOK
SUBSTITUTES UNDER FIRE United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 17. 12.40 a.m.) LONDON. June 16 The wool conference continued today. Dr. Earle Page (Australia) said: “Wool substitutes were the children of poverty and cloths made from them were best called the robes of paupers. Every effort should be made to impress the public with the real valuable qualities of wool. Mr Baines, emphasising the necessity for a definition of wool, declared that unless something were done quickly, various governments might adopt legislation adversely affecting wool interests. He suggested the appointment of a small committee representing Britain, France and Germany. The conference agreed to this suggestion in spite of the strong opposition of the Germans who declared that the problem was over-complicated. Mr Clunie Ross urged the Australian States at present considering legislation on the subject to defer it, until the conference published its views.
