SEADOWN DRAINAGE
URGENCY APPARENT On his visit to South Canterbury next week, the Minister for Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) may Inspect the lower Seadown district, at the request of the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P. for Timaru. 'I recently visited lower Seadown,” Mr Carr said in an interview, ’’when I was met by local farmers and taken over some of their properties, which are in a terribly waterlogged condition. “Since then, there have been phenomenally heavy rains, and the whole district is practically inundated. This renders the Washdyke Drainage Scheme even more obviously necessary and urgent, if the whole area is not to go out of cultivaTon for some time. I have therefore asked Mr Semple to spare an hour or so, when he visits Temuka on Thursday next, to view this territory. The settlers and I would be very grateful.” Mr Carr said that the Minister would tour Mr D. Barnes’ electorate, Waitaki, on Mondcy, Tuesday and Wednesday, and would visit Temuka on Thursday next.
