NEW RULES ADODPTED

MEETING OF TIMARU TROTTING CLUB New rules were adopted by members of the Timaru Trotting Club at a special general meeting last night at which the president (Mr John Hole) presided over an attendance of 33 members. The most contentious rule was that providing for the election of the president and vice-president by members instead of by the committee as formerly. It was argued that members should have the right to elect the principal officers, and on the other hand that the committee, elected by members, should be competent to choose the president and vice-president. After a long discussion a motion by Messrs D. Murchison and W. Fraser, that the rule governing the election of the president and vice-president by members, be rejected, was defeated at a secret ballot and the proposed new rules were adopted. The new rule regarding the method of election provided that any member could nominate a member to serve as president, vice-president, or on the committee, the nomination to be received in writing by the secretary by noon on the first day of July in which the annual meeting was to be held. It was further provided that a postal ballot be held for the election, the papers to be posted 10 days before the meeting and returned by noon on the day preceding the annual meeting. A member must vote for the number of candidates required, otherwise the paper would be regarded as informal. The rule provided as formerly that other than the president and vicepresident, four members of the committee retire every year at the annual meeting and that they be eligible for re-election.
