COUNTRY SCHOOLS
AUCKLAND BOARD UNABLE TO SUPPLY TEACHERS By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, June 15. A memorandum from the Education Department to Education Boards urges extreme measures in coping with the present serious shortage of teachers for country schools. A memorandum received by the Auckland Board to-day recommends the retention of the reasonably efficient teacher who will normally be retiring, also the re-employ-ment of retired teachers and other attractive measures. As an extra encouragement to the enrolment of training college students, the Department notified an amendment of the regulations so as to grant allowances of £209 per annum to married students.
