Before a crowd of 1200 the Indian hockey team beat Manawatu by 4 goals to nil. The game was very even in the first spell which closed one-nil in the visitors’ favour, a goal scored near the call of half-time. Manawatu played the Indians’ own game, showing clever stickwork. In the second spell, however. the visitors gave a machine-like display, adding two goals shortly after the recommencement and a fourth a quarter of an hour later. The Manawatu forwards were not able to exploit advantages to the same extent as the Indians and a number of shots at goal went wide. The Indians were frequently penalised for obstruction, but their positional play and control of the ball was almost uncanny. The crowd was thrilled at the speed of the 1 game in the first spell, but the game was more one-sided in the second half. ' The ground was heavy and Manawatu seemed more troubled on that account than the Indians, who also missed goals. Hart, the Manawatu goalie, played a magnificent game and on the day was one of the best players on the 1 field.
