Ten thousand were present when play resumed at Notts in the first test match. The weather was warm and cloudless on the most Australia-like day of ' the tour. | Brown and Bradman, the not out I batsmen, made a comfortable start, in contrast to the overnight tension, four singles came off Hammond’s first over, followed by three consecutive maidens. Then Brown, timing perfectly, turned Fames for two. Bradman was extra careful in getting his eye in, patted the wicket, which was becoming dustier, but was apparently still playing well. Bradman asked Sinfield, who habitually finished bowling bj planting his right foot in front of the wicket, and also walked about on the wicket, to desist. It is understood that this yesterday was a source of complaint. Next over Sinfield again walked down the wicket and Brown requested him to move off. Runs came slowly and easily off Verity and Sinfield. Both batsmen were completely at home. Wright displaced Verity at 140 and Brown was beaten with the last ball of Wright’s over, when his score was 77, and total 150, but this could hardly be regarded as an escape. Bradman Stonewalling The rare spectacle of Bradman stonewalling was witnessed. He scored only--16 in an hour, but the crowd was silent,
