SHARP EARTHQUAKE I.N HAWKE'S BAY By Telegraph—Press Association HASTINGS, June 14. Hawke’s Bay was shaken by ar earthquake lasting several seconds a! 2 p.m. to-day. The shock was fair!} severe, but did not last long enough tc cause any serious damage. Minor breakages are reported in Hastings Napier and surrounding districts. The first jolt brought people hurriedly out of shops and offices, and traffic wat pullc 1 up almost immediately. Al - though there was no report of any serious structural damage to buildings some small windows were broken in shops, schools and houses in the central portion of the province. In twe big department stores in Hastings crockery displays in windows were wrecked. Seismograph records taken by Mi H. De Denne, of Hastings, for the Dominion Observatory, Wellington, indicate that the disturbance was a local one of fairly severe intensity.
