THE HUNT
MEET AT PLEASANT POINT On Saturday last the South Canterbury Hounds met at Pleasant Point. In spite of the cold morning scent lay well on the wet ground, and followers enjoyed a splendid day’s sport. Hounds quickly found a hare in MiMaze’s farm which made up over the downs and turned left-handed across Mr Boyd’s farm and then back into Mr Maze’s. Here she turned right and ran a quarter of a mile along a road before turning into Mr Roberts’s. Hounds were close on her and she doubled back across the road into Mr Munro’s and up over the downs through Mr Wood’s farm and back to the fiat. A very done hare finally eluded hounds in a creek on Mr Munro’s. After a spell a fast run through Messrs Roberts and Miller's saw hounds finally kill in Mr Roberts’s farm close to where she was found. Another hare gave a very good hunt through the Miller Estate and Mr Roberts’s and was finally lost in Mr Jones’s near the Fairlie road. Those following were:—the Master, Mr C. L. Orbell on Gambler, actinghuntsman, Mr H. H. Elworthy on Ahitu and Bill; honorary-whip, Mr C. Maze on Jason; Mrs M. B. Savill on Tycho, Mrs K. H. Hargreaves on Kingfisher, Miss M. Orbell on Fortnum.
