BOARD TO MEET BAND
Conductor Replies to Charges Council Resolution “ Received ” A Long Meeting Any decision regarding the conductor of the Timaru Municipal Band (Lieutenant R. J. Simpson) has been deferre by the Band Control Board un‘il it has interviewed the Band. This was the result of a meeting of the Board last night, which lasted four and a quarter Lours. The meeting was attended by the full Board, comprising the Mayor (Mr W. G. Tweedy) and Crs. P. B. Foote and A. S. Kinsman, representing the Timaru Borough Council, and Messrs A. Riley. J. Feeley and G. Lowry, representing :hc P nd. The representatives of three newspapers presented themselves at the Council Chambers before the commencement of the meeting, which ./as held in the committee room. After a short discussion by the Board, the reporters, who were waiting in the corridor, were informed by the s retary of the Board (Mr C. G. Baker) that it had been decided that the meeting be not open t> the Press. At the conclusion of the meeting the following statement was handed to "The Timaru Herald”:— “A meeting of the Band Control Board was held last evening, all members being present. “A letter was received from the Town Clerk conveying the resolution passed at the last meeting of the Council suggesting the setting up of an pendent board of inquiry. “The letter was received, and it was decided that no action be taken. “The conductor (Lieutenant Simpson) then appeared before the Board, and submitted a comprehensive reply to the various charges made. "The Board then resolved that any decision regarding the conductor be deferred until the Board interviewed the Band."
