FIRST SCHOLARSHIP B? Telegraph—Pres? Association WELLINGTON. May 30. Three members of the Aircraft Club who are to undergo examination for the first scholarship provided by the club were selected by ballot at a meeting of the organisation to-night. Those w’hose numbers were drawn were A. E. Lipscombe. Brooklyn; R. J. Thompson. Southbridge. Canterbury, and J. C. Kirk, Herne Bay, Auckland. The number of members who participated in the ballot was 241. The chairman Mr C. W. Batten, said that members paid a subscription of £5/4/- a year or 2/- a week, receiving as well as the right to participate m ballots for scholarships a first second or third year course in aeronautics, each year being complete in itself. No one must suppose that such a course would qualify one as a ground engineer, but to a person interested in aviation it was valuable instruction and gave a young man an idea of what was involved in an aviation career. The three selected as candidates will go before the examining board. The course will consist of instruction in piloti T 'i and ground engineering to the value of £66. It was announced that membership w r as increasing so quickly that another ballet could be held within a few weeks, and that an art union was being organised to assist the fund further.
