The tariff schedule Introduced In the House of Representatives will substitute the protective duties for the restrictions which opened under the licensing system, and will mark the abandonment of Australia’s experiment in trade diversion by embargo. It is believed this will be, an important factor in improving the atmosphere, in which the pending discussions for a trade agreement with the United States will take place. The schedule will Impose increased duties on a pumber of items under the general tariff rate. Most of the alterations will apply to metal goods and machinery.
