RUGBY UNION
Bay of Plenty Team’s Visit Draw For Season In all probability the Bay of Plenty representative Rugby team, which is stated to be virtually a New Zealand Maori side, will play South Canterbury in Timaru on Saturday, June 18. according to information supplied by Mr Ned Pkrata, of the Maori Advisory Board, to the Management Committee of the South Canterbury Rugby Union last night. Present: Messrs J. H. Harley (chairman), A. D. Jackson. D. M. Webster, C. L. Cutler, G. McDonald. J. Smither, M. J. Angland, C. W. Keinan, A. A. Grant, A. C. Rippin, A. B. Herdman.
In a letter, Mr Parata said Canterbury, Otago and Southland also had accepted matches, and it was proposed to play Canterbury on the King’s birthday. In all probability the South Canterbury match would be played on the Saturday following the Otago game. The date could be arranged by the delegates to the annual conference of the New Zealand Union in Wellington this week. The chairman said it was probable that the team would play in Christchurch on June 6. and then go straight down to Invercargill to play there the following Saturday. They would probably play Otago the, next Wednesday and Timaru on the Saturday. June 18. The matter was left in the hands of the Union’s delegate to the conference. Mr J. H. Harley.
In view of the sodden state of the grounds, it was decided to postpone the opening of the lower gradv season until May 14. Mr J. Lewis, the only nominee, was elected players’ representative on the Referees Appointment Board. Following is the complete draw for the series of matches in the senior and junior competiti ns.
