STABLE HANDS' UNION By Telegraph —Pres? Association CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. Sable hands in racing and trotting stables in Canterbury have formed a union, which has been registered as ! the Canterbury Racin': and Trotting Stable Hands’ Industrial Union. This is the first union of its kind formed in

New Zealand, but it is expected that ! workers in other centres will follow the lead given by Canterbury. Better wages and improved living conditions are two of the main aims of the union. In the past the sprinter Surella has found Hawera a happy hunting ground, and he is expected to be on hand again at this week’s meeting. Last May at Egmont he won a hack and an open sprint, and last February he finished third in the main sprint the first day and then dead-heated with Clessamor on the second day. His fine effort in beating Rulette at Avondale indicated that he is back to his best.
